Tips for Cooking
Measuring spoons are used to measure seasonings. A tablespoon is 15 ml and a teaspoon is 5 ml. There are other spoons for measuring smaller amounts.
When measuring flour, sugar, and other dry ingredients, heap the measuring scoop with the ingredient and level off using a special tool called surikiribo or the flat handle of a spoon. To measure one-half tablespoon, measure one tablespoon, divide vertically using a surikiribo, and remove one half.
To measure liquids, fill the spoon to the brink of spilling. The surface will be slightly bulging because of surface tension.
