Cut the beef and the onion into bite-sized chunks, cut the potato into big chunks and cut the carrot into small chunks (ran-giri).

Heat the oil in a pot and sauté the garlic and the ginger. When the aroma of the garlic and the ginger has been released, add the onion and stir until coated with the oil. Add the beef and sauté a while longer. Pour the water into the pot, add the potato and the carrot, and cook thoroughly.

When the vegetables are thoroughly cooked, break the the block of curry into pieces, add them to the pot, and simmer. Pour the curry over rice placed on a plate and serve.
